Message from the Council President regarding Covid-19 impact

Based on several conversations regarding the current public health concerns, and as advised by our Texas PTA President-Elect, we think it is best to cancel the March 24th Delegate Luncheon Meeting as it is a large gathering.

According to Council Bylaws, our March Delegate Meeting is our Election Meeting. Due to the nature of current public health concerns, we may not be able to call a special meeting in March to conduct the elections. We have discussed this with Texas PTA. At this time, Texas PTA is not authorizing the use of virtual meetings to conduct elections for Executive Boards at the Council or Local levels, However they are extending leniency on any elections slated for March 2020.

If and when it is safer to reschedule, we may be able to consider that, and if it does not work out, we will have to move the March Delegate Meeting business to April Delegate Meeting. This would include the elections and voting on the Standing Rules amendments. Please stay tuned.

All local PTA Leaders received a statement from Texas PTA on Coronavirus yesterday. If you missed it, please find it forwarded below.

As Texas PTA has advised, here are some IMPORTANT REMINDERS:
  • Since this is a community-wide concern, we ask that our volunteers practice a heightened sense of personal health. Simple steps can prevent the spread of germs like frequent handwashing, avoiding touching your face, and social distance when sick.
  • Texas PTA is NOT authorizing the use of virtual meetings to conduct elections for Executive Boards at the Council or Local levels. They are extending leniency on any elections slated for March 2020.
  • Honor decisions made by the school district and campus. Please follow their lead when conducting PTA business.
  • Any event scheduled on a campus will be canceled the same as any other after school activity.
  • If there is an event off-campus, that board would need to make the best decision for their members, which in this situation, would most likely be to cancel or postpone. The most important factor is to keep people safe and right now that means not creating opportunities for them to gather.
  • You can wait until we are safe to begin convening again.
  • In addition to election season, we know PTAs are busy planning spring events and end-of-year celebrations. Now is the time to review contracts with vendors. If you have concerns or questions, please reach out to our Texas PTA Field Service Representative or contact any of the officers of RRISD Council of PTAs.
And most importantly, keep up that #AWESOME PTA Spirit!!
Not only we will persevere, but we will come out STRONGER TOGETHER!!!

Thank you so much for all you do!!! Have a restful Spring Break!!!

Sincerely,
Snehal Phirke
President, Round Rock ISD Council of PTAs
