Rally Day 2021

Every two years, when the legislature is in session, Texas PTA holds a Rally Day to bring PTA communities across Texas together to the Capitol to advocate for Public Education and other Texas PTA legislative priorities. On the same day, PTA leaders make appointments to meet with our representatives. This year Rally Day was virtual. Round Rock ISD Council of PTA’s Advocacy Committee was able to schedule 20-30 min Zoom Webinars with 3 of our legislators.

Based on our Advocacy team’s research, questions were developed based on our community’s focus on the following priorities: Support student mental health to keep schools safe, Maintaining funding for our schools, Focus on teaching not testing, and Keeping public dollars in public schools.

In addition to these priorities, the historic winter storm had just occurred and many of our community members were continuing to deal with a lack of food or water, storm damage in their homes, and struggling with internet connectivity. We took this opportunity to ask our representatives about the added trauma of this event on the community and its impact on schools.

The webinars were recorded with permission so that those constituents who could not participate on 2.22.2021 due to continued hardships could watch the recorded meetings at their convenience.
